An eLearning with a gamified approach and a scenario-based design.

The Challenge: Traditional training can sometimes lose sight of the gap between knowing and doing. Learners can struggle to apply concepts to real-world situations or understand consequences if the content is static.

The Solution:

I designed this immersive, gamified experience that places the learner in a scenario-driven environment. Using a skiing and snowboarding theme, the course requires active decision-making with immediate feedback through branching paths. This design style demonstrates that every choice has an outcome, though sometimes unpredictable.

 

Design Highlights:

  • Branching Scenarios: a non-linear gamified experience where learner choice dictates the story's progression and simulates real-life consequences.
  • Gamified Feedback Loops: Incorporated visual progress markers and status updates to maintain high engagement and encourage motivation.
  • Humorous Hook: instilled a lighthearted, skiing/snowboarding inspired tone to make decision-making fun and build anticipation.
  • Risk-Free Experience: a safe-to-fail space that promotes exploration and learning from mistakes without serious repercussions.

 

Tools used:

  • Articulate Storyline: Developed using advanced variables to track player choices and trigger specific feedback.
  • Canva: Designed custom visual themes to ensure "The Mountain" maintains a real-world skiing and snowboarding experience.
  • Google Flow: Created an AI-generated clip for an immersive experience.
  • SnagIt: Captured and refined custom assets for use in the game.
