New Hire Onboarding

The Challenge: I created this course to solve the common issue of information overload during onboarding, by redesigning dense policy manual content into a user-friendly, interactive eLearning experience.

The Solution:

I developed an interactive onboarding module that uses a non-linear, menu-driven structure. This allows learners to self-direct their experience by accessing policy and onboarding information in digestible, micro-learning segments, that improve comprehension and retention.

By implementing learner-controlled navigation, employees navigate through this learning process at their own pace. This approach takes into consideration the cognitive overload often felt during onboarding, with a focus on high-impact areas like company mission and role expectations.

Design Highlights:

  • Scaffolded Learning: information is layered and segmented, allowing learners to build knowledge at their own pace.
  • Multimodal Engagement: incorporated visual, audio, and interactive elements to maintain engagement and support diverse learning preferences.
  • Visual Branding: developed custom designs in Canva to ensure branding remains cohesive and professional throughout.

Tools used:

  • Articulate Storyline: Utilized advanced triggers and variables to create a non-linear, personalized experience.
  • Canva: Created custom UI elements and instructional graphics.
  • SnagIt: Captured and annotated company-based process steps for clear visual guidance.
